A charter for jurisdiction in “Building Material, Construction and Fuel Truck Drivers” was issued in January 1946 and Teamsters Local 213 was created with Custer Solem as Local 213's first elected secretary-treasurer and principal officer.
The 1950s saw the start of huge growth in our province and our construction members were involved in many large projects. Work in road building, pipeline and ready mix expanded through the next several years. Local 213 instituted it’s own dispatch in 1958.
Merging with Local 181 in 1972 and Local 351 in 1983 expanded our membership and the industries we represented. Today, Local 213 represents members in hundreds of diverse fields.
From the beginning, Local 213 has been driven by the goal to better the lives of our members on and off the job. Local 213's Health & Welfare Plan and Pension Plan, initiated many years ago, still provide excellent benefits for our members today. Our training programs have ranged from construction warehousemen training in the late 1960s to our participation in the current Joint Training School in Sardis and our yearly seminars for our shop stewards.
