Teamster Youth Committee brings energy
and enthusiasm to union organizing

A resolution was adopted to support the formation of the Teamsters Youth Committee at the Teamsters Canada convention in June. This committee has been formed and is comprised of 14 members, under 35 years of age from across Canada.

Shane Mangel (Local 213 – Coca Cola), Anita Dawson (Local 213 business rep), Mike Hennessy (Local 31 – Van Kam Freightways Ltd.), Jesse Brehl (TCRC MWED – CP Rail) and Dallas Lang (TCRC – CN Rail) are the representatives from B.C.

The main focus of this committee is to liaise with our members, especially the younger generation, and bring your ideas, interests and concerns back to Teamsters Canada. Our committee will look at ways we can strengthen our union members’ voice in the workplace, union and community.

We have just had our first meeting and we are excited by the challenges. As our focus is on the younger generation of Teamsters, we will look to mentor and bring on our successors as the current committee members “age out.”

Look for more developments and communications in the coming months as this committee starts to fulfill its objectives.
