We are very pleased to report that the sixth and final generating unit of the Site C dam is now in operation!
This is a significant accomplishment for the many Teamsters 213 members who have been working on this mega project since 2015.
Congratulations and thank you to the members who helped make Site C a reality. The dam can power up to 500,000 homes each year!
The earthfill dam, which directs water from the Peace River to the powerhouse, is about 60 metres tall, more than one kilometre across the river and about 500 metres wide at its base.
Workers used 1.68 million cubic metres of concrete to create the three roller-compacted buttresses. That’s six times the amount of concrete as was used to build the Burj Khlaifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world!
