Teamsters at car dealerships

Some of the 20 Teamsters working as technicians, parts people, and service advisors at Go Auto Dodge in Surrey have been with the company for 28 years. Shop Steward Brian Devison began his career as a general mechanic in 1987 “working on nice little cars with carburetors.”

The job title changed to technician a couple of decades ago as the work became more technical. “All technicians have to go through special electronic training and lots of electrical courses. There’s nothing in a car that doesn’t have an electrical line going to it. Electronics are changing every six months. They’re always coming up with new and better things. There’s no getting away from that.

“A lot of fixes are done by updating car computers. But there’s still grease under the nails,” Devison added.
